Test Description

Mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), also known as extracellular regulated protein kinase (ERK), is a serine/threonine protein kinase shown to regulate cellular processes including proliferation, differentiation, cellular morphology, and oncogenesis. Activation of ERK-1 and ERK-2 is mediated by MEK. ERKs then phosphorylate and activate a variety of substrates including transcription factors, protein kinases and phosphotyrosine protein phosphatases leading to positive or negative regulation of signaling cascades.
